Eligibility
Citizens of and residents in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, the People’sRepublic of China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, theRepublic of Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore,South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Master’s/Doctoral degree or equivalent professional training and experiences(minimum of 3 years of university teaching experiences for scholars or 5 years ofwork experience for professionals.)Applicants must be 45 years old or younger at the time of the applicationdeadline. However, those up to 50 years old proposing to do research in the fieldof Humanities may be given special consideration.Proficiency in English or in the language of the host country appropriate to theproposed research project.Those who are currently enrolled in a degree program, or have just completed adegree program for less than one to two years will not be eligible to apply. Thosewho were a recipient of a Ford Foundation fellowship grant within the last twoyears prior to the application is also ineligible.

Conditions of the awards
The proposed research projects for the ASIA Fellows Awards can be carried out inonly one participating country (except the applicant’s own) and under thefollowing conditions:
o No applicant can propose to conduct their research in Hong Kong, Japan,Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.
o Applicants from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singaporecannot undertake research in each other’s countries.
o Applicants from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan can onlyapply to conduct their research in Thailand, the host country of ASF.

Any part of the proposed project that will be done in the applicant’s own countrywill not be funded under the ASIA Fellows Awards.The proposed grant period must be between 6-9 months. Once awarded, a fellowis required to conduct research at the proposed host country throughout the grantperiod. Splitting of the grant period or conducting research in the applicant’s owncountry during the proposed grant period is not allowed under any circumstances.While an applicant from South or Southeast Asia may propose a research projectin a country within his/her own region, preference is given to applicants whopropose to conduct research in a region of Asia other than their own (e.g., anaward to an Indian scholar or professional for research in China).Applicants should not plan to conduct their research in a country with which theirhome country has a difficult diplomatic relationship because of the uncertaintiesof securing an affiliation and obtaining a research clearance and visa for a longtermstay.Fellowship awards are not for the purpose of completing requirements towards anacademic degree (master’s thesis or doctoral dissertations).

Fellowship Activities
ASIA Fellows awardees are placed at top-ranking research universities and non-academicinstitutions such as museums, archives or think tanks. Fellows should identify preferredplacements in host countries. They may engage in an organized field research in the hostcountry. Fellows are strongly encouraged to undertake some language training in theirhost country as part of facilitating their research. They are also provided the opportunitiesto present guest lectures, or to conduct seminars and workshops at the invitation of thehost institutions. After completion of their fellowship, fellows can apply for postfellowshipawards of three months to further their research in a country within Asia, orfor short-term travel awards to make presentations at overseas conferences and meetings.
All fellows are required to attend the Orientation Program in July 2008, and the ASIAFellows’ Annual Conference in July 2010 at which they present their research results tofellow awardees and to scholars from the country in which the conference is held. Theyare also required to start the award by the end of December 2008. At the end of thefellowship, fellows must submit to the ASF office in Bangkok evidence of the results oftheir research project in the form of publications, photos of artistic works, audio/videoproductions, etc.

Selection Process
Regional review committees composed of leading scholars from participating countriesand regions conduct an initial review of the applications. In mid-March, short-listedcandidates are interviewed by the review committee for their region at meetings inBeijing, New Delhi, and Bangkok. (The Asian Scholarship Foundation covers the travelexpenses of short-listed candidates.) The applications of recommended candidates arethen forwarded to the multi-regional Board Management Committee which will make thefinal selection of ASIA Fellows Awards recipients by the end of May 2008.

Prospect Burma

Description
Prospect Burma was established in 1989 and its scholarship program was started in 1992 with support from Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's Nobel Peace Prize funds. By funding education for young Burmese, Prospect Burma seeks to help create a cadre of Burmese who will be competent to run the country once democracy returns. Its aim is to educate those who will bring their knowledge and skills back to Burma for its future development. In 2000, it supported 80 students studying in several countries.

Prospect Burma's scholarship programme has expanded over the years and in 2006 Prospect Burma was able to make a record 200 awards to Burmese students studying at universities worldwide.

Prospect Burma is offering Scholarships open to people of Burmese origin who meet the following conditions:

Eligibility
You may qualify for an award if you are of Burmese origin and have been accepted for, or enrolled in a degree course at an accredited college or university, and are:
¨ Accepted for and/or enrolled in a first degree (undergraduate) course at a college or university;
¨ Already studying, or accepted for, a Master’s degree course;
¨ A postgraduate student who has already started on a Doctorate, or has a confirmed offer of a place to read for a Doctorate.
We give preference to applicants studying one of the following subjects:

¨ Religious studies
We also give preference to students at educational institutions in South-East Asia or South Asia.

CRITERIA & CONDITIONS
We announce a competition each January for awards for the forthcoming academic year. Awards are for one year only, and students must apply again for subsequent years.
We help students who have a good academic record, who can demonstrate financial need and who intend eventually to return to Burma to help the democratic rebuilding of the country.
Our awards are intended as a contribution to tuition fees, academic course materials and living expenses including accommodation and food. We do not contribute to international travel, computer equipment or debts. We do not make a contribution to the costs of dependants (spouses, partners, children).

We will require successful applicants to sign a grant letter and to observe the conditions of the award. If a student fails to observe the conditions, they will be liable to repay the money and will not be eligible for future awards.
Decisions on awards are made by Prospect Burma’s Scholarship Committee and are final.

USA - 2008 / 2009 AMINEF Fulbright ASEAN Visiting Scholars ProgramGENERAL PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONThe American Indonesia Exchange Foundation (AMINEF) is pleased to announce the availability of Fulbright scholarships to study in the United States. The primary focus of the Fulbright Program in Indonesia is to promote mutual understanding between the Republic of Indonesia and the United States of America through educational exchange and academic scholarship. Fulbright scholarships are available to Indonesian citizens with the appropriate qualifications as stipulated in the program descriptions listed below.FULBRIGHT ASEAN VISITING SCHOLARS PROGRAM 2008-09The Fulbright Program is pleased to announce a new opportunity for Fulbright Visiting Scholars, The Fulbright ASEAN Visiting Scholars Program. The purpose of this new initiative is to provide opportunities for travel to the United States for scholarly and professional research on issues central to the ASEAN-U.S. relationship. Preference will be given to qualified applicants who have not had recent and substantial experience in the United States.PROJECTSProposals should be carefully developed projects that will deepen the applicant’s understanding of one or more aspects of the ASEAN-U.S. relationship. While it is expected that the majority of time will be spent in research, grantees are also encouraged to expand and develop their network of professional contacts so that professional relationships established during the grantee’s time in the U.S. can be sustained after the formal grant period has ended. ASEAN scholarship for Myanmar Students

The ASEAN Scholarships for Myanmar is tenable for 4 years leading to theaward of the Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education 'Advanced'(GCE 'A') Level (or equivalent) certificate.The Scholarship is for studies in selected Singapore schools from SecondaryThree to Pre-University Two and is renewed annually, subject to the satisfactoryperformance of the scholar. Students from Myanmar are nominated by the Myanmar Ministry of Education forthe scholarships. Candidates who are not short-listed for the scholarships will beconsidered for the Merit Awards.

Students must meet the following criteria to be nominated for the scholarship.

1 Be nationals of The Union of Myanmar

2 Be between 14+ to 16+ years old

3 Completed at least Grade 9 and have done consistently well in school examinations

4 Be proficient in English and have offered English Language as a subject at Grade 9

Any dates given below are tentative and are subject to changes.

Singapore Undergraduate ASEAN Scholarship

Nanyang Technology University ASEAN Undergraduate Scholarships
The Undergraduate Scholarships for ASEAN students are offered by the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) for students from the Association of South East Asian Nations, or ASEAN. ASEAN comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The scholarship is to finance the pursuit of an undergraduate degree on a full-time basis at NTU.
Eligibility
All nationals (citizens and permanent residents) of a member country of ASEAN (except Singapore) are eligible to apply for the scholarships. The scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and are very competitive.
Terms and Conditions
The scholarship is tenable for the minimum period of candidature for the undergraduate degree course at NTU. It covers the tuition fee and a living allowance of $3,500 per annum. There will be no bond apart from the 3-year bond applicable to all foreign students under the Tuition Grant Scheme.
A recipient of the scholarship may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, grant or award without the prior approval of NTU.

Scholarship in Japan : 2008 Asian Youth Fellowship (AYF)

Asian Youth Fellowship (AYF) 2008 Program aims to nurture human networking among ASEAN countries, Bangladesh and Japan.The AYF preparatory course before entering Japanese Graduate School as Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) scholarship student is offered by The Japan Foundation. AYF program is open to university graduates in the region who wish to contribute to regional cooperation after obtaining a Master and/or Ph. D. Degree in Japanese Graduate Schools as follows:1. Features of the Asian Youth Fellowship ProgramAYF consists of the following component:q Coordination of a host professor and research plan development during the preparatory course in Japanq Preparatory course (Japanese Language and cultural activities)q Follow ups after completing the preparatory courseThe scholarship grantees shall receive a preparatory course in the Japanese language for approximately 7 months, at The Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai, Japan. The Open Society Institute's Network Scholarship Program

Description

OSI's Supplementary Grant Program for Burmese students was established in 1994 to address primarily -- but not exclusively -- the needs of Burmese refugee students whose college education was disrupted due to political instability in Burma. The goal of the program is to enable these students to complete their education, as well as to assist students just beginning their academic career outside of Burma.

Requirements
Applicants must be between the ages of 18-40, must be accepted into a full-time study program, must already have partial support, and must intend to return to Burma. Students who are enrolled in English as a Second Language Programs and high school are not eligible for the Supplementary Grant Program - Burma.

Provisions
Grants are provided to students in three different categories: tuition - not to exceed 50% of tuition per course; living expenses - students who have succeeded in funding their tuition, either through scholarships or their own financial means, are eligible for additional housing and living funds; other - students who have secured all other funds but cannot afford additional expenses such as books, materials, health insurance, transportation to and from the school.
